Officer Scholarships
The Army Officer Scholarship Scheme guarantees financial support while you study, starting in Academic Year 13 and when you start your degree. You will also get a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for a career as an Army Officer when you finish university.

There are up to 100 scholarships awarded each year.
If you’re granted a scholarship, you’ll receive an initial £3,000 while you're in Year 13/S6 in Scotland, be awarded a provisional Army Undergraduate Bursary and be guaranteed a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Once at university you you will receive the Standard Bursary of £6,000 (£7,000 for a 4-year degree) while you're studying, and you can also apply to upgrade to another bursary if you are eligible, such as:
Enhanced or DSUS undergraduate bursaries
Medical Bursary if you’re studying nursing or medicine.
Once you graduate university you will start your career as an Army Officer and begin your training at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst (RMAS).

Whats the process?
- Step 1Apply online.
Applications are open to students in Year 12 (or S5 in Scotland, Y13 Northern Ireland) from 1st September – 31st March.
If you meet all the eligibility criteria, we’ll send you a link to complete an online medical questionnaire.
Apply Now - Step 2Medical
If your medical questionnaire is fine, you’ll be contacted by a recruiter to discuss next steps. This will include a virtual interview. From there you may be invited to attend a medical examination at your nearest Army Assessment Centre or Army Officer Selection Board Westbury.
- Step 3Application review board
Your application will be reviewed by a scrutiny board.
There’s no need for you to attend – we’ll be in touch to let you know the outcome.
- Step 4Selection
Before selection, you may have the chance to attend a three-day Generic Army Insight Course to prepare you for selection and give you an insight into life as an Army Officer.
Then, you’ll be invited to attend the Army Officer Selection Board in Westbury, Wiltshire for two nights in June or July. The programme includes outdoor and physical activities, designed to build confidence and get you used to solving problems as part of a team.

If you’re granted a scholarship – congratulations!
You'll receive a payment of £3,000 when you're in Year 13 (or S6 in Scotland), and you’ll also have secured a provisional Army Undergraduate Bursary to help you through university.
