Training to be an Officer
Become A Leader At The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst
Army Officers are ambitious, robust and adaptable people. Being able to lead and be a team player are key characteristics. Whatever your background or experience, there will be one thing you all have in common – you will receive the best leadership and management training in the world at Sandhurst.
There are three intakes each year for regular officers - January, May and September. The commissioning course lasts for 42 weeks.

Your Sandhurst Journey
- 1Junior Term (14 weeks)
This is where it all starts. You will learn basic military skills and by the end, you'll have a solid grounding in the fundamentals of military leadership.
There are three key exercises in Junior Term which focus on fieldcraft and tactics.
- 2Intermediate Term (14 weeks)
This is the term where your focus changes. You will transition from looking after yourself, to being responsible for others.
The three exercises in Intermediate Term focus on how you operate on a larger scale, with more moving parts.
- 3Senior Term (14 weeks)
The final term gives you more responsibility and you'll be expected to deal with increasingly complex scenarios, as you further refine your skills ready to commission.
You'll go on three more field exercises (including one overseas), before commissioning as an Officer in front of your friends and family.
I absolutely loved my time there, and although at times it could be challenging, that just made it all the more rewarding.

The Final Test: Exercise Dynamic Victory
Towards the end of your course, you will have the opportunity to put everything you've learnt to the test. Exercise Dynamic Victory is a two-week exercise that takes place overseas.
Once you successfully complete the exercise, you'll have earnt the right to wear your regimental head-dress for the first time. Wearing your head-dress gives you a sense of identity, purpose and direction – whilst also being an exciting glimpse into your future.
