How it works
Apprenticeships are built into your Army training from day one.
Over 13,000 apprentices are currently enrolled.
Programmes range from Level 2 to Level 4, with Level 6 and 7 available later in your career.
Choose from more than 38 different schemes.
You’ll complete the apprenticeship most relevant to your role. This happens alongside your Initial Trade Training (ITT) and further trade training.
Training is designed with employers and approved by industry regulators.
You’ll gain hands-on experience that counts towards your qualification.

There are three levels of apprenticeships for entry level soldier roles.
LEVEL 2 - Intermediate
Intermediate Apprenticeships (Level 2) are:
the first level available
equivalent to getting five good GCSE passes.
If you have not got GCSEs in English and Maths at grades 4-9, we’ll help you gain Level 1 in Literacy and Numeracy as part of the Level 2 apprenticeship, which is an alternative qualification to GCSEs.
The apprenticeships normally take 12-18 months. You’ll start your apprenticeship in initial trade training and put your knowledge into practice with your Field Army unit.
LEVEL 3 - Advanced
Advanced Apprenticeships (Level 3) are:
equivalent to two A level passes or a T level pass.
a great way to gain practical, work-based skills and experience in a particular job and sector if you already have Level 3 qualifications, including A levels
There are no entry requirements, but some Level 3 apprenticeships require mandatory qualifications that the Army will facilitate in delivering. However, you must have achieved Level 2 in English and Maths, the equivalent to GCSE 9-4/A*-C, on completion.
The apprenticeships normally take 18 - 36 months. You’ll start your apprenticeship in initial trade training and put your knowledge into practice with your Field Army unit.
LEVEL 4 - Higher
Higher Apprenticeships (Level 4) are:
equivalent to a foundation degree (first year of an undergraduate degree).
There are no entry requirements. However, you must have achieved Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths, the equivalent to GCSE 9-4/A*-C, on completion.
The apprenticeships normally take 18 - 36 months. You’ll start your apprenticeship in initial trade training and put your knowledge into practice with your Field Army unit.
