In short yes, it is part of your contract. However, there are circumstances where the Army will consider your suitability and look to keep you home if that is needed for welfare reasons. These would be a case by case basis and the needs of the Army do come first, but there is room to ask and see if there are other options available.

This is very job role specific. Many operations involve being deployed with a small team or your Regiment. These will be planned with plenty of notice and training. If you would like to deploy and your current job does not offer it, there is the ability to request a posting or trawl.

This can depend on why you are away. A traditional deployment is 6 months long with a break of two weeks for Rest and Recuperation (R&R) where the Army may fly you home and back all for free. However, the Army is currently focusing more on small groups going out to do smaller tasks, which average a 3 month period of being away.
