In our latest myth-busting blog, real soldiers talk about the wide range of roles available in the Army, from engineers to musicians, and help breakdown the stereotype that it's all about combat.

So, let’s answer the big question: Are all Army roles about combat? Watch our video now.

Two soldiers in camouflage sit in leather chairs discussing roles in the army. Text reads, "Are all roles in the army about combat?"

It’s Not Just Combat – It’s Careers That Count

It’s a common myth that every soldier is on the front line. In reality, the Army offers a wide range of roles that keep operations running smoothly, both at home and across the globe. “We do everything, right,” says one soldier. “We have an HR department, you’ve got Logistics, you’ve got Signals… it’s a normal running business.”

That’s right. The Army has seven career streams that cover a range of roles, and Combat is only one of them. These are:

  1. Engineering

  2. HR, Finance & Support

  3. Intelligence, Comms & IT

  4. Logistics & Support

  5. Medical

  6. Music

  7. and lastly Combat

“Both of our roles are non-combat roles, and I think that’s fantastic.”

A Role for Everyone, Everywhere

Let’s hear more from the people who live it.

“We’re Engineers ourselves,” says one Soldier in the video, “We can deploy to places like Kenya, Sudan, Jordan, Cyprus and do construction as well.”

Another adds: “My role is Army Music, it’s not Combat. We provide musical support to anything ceremonial, parades etc.”

From Doctors and Nurses to Dog Handlers, Chefs and Warehouse Operators, the Army is full of roles that support operations and keep things running smoothly.
