You've Got Options

Whether you’re looking to stay close to home or explore new horizons, the Army gives you the chance to shape your journey.

As a Regular soldier, you can list your preferred locations.

“You put your options down, as a Regular,” explains one soldier. “If you want to be close to home, then more than likely the barracks that is close to you - obviously depending on your cap badge.”

While you do have the opportunity to request where you'd like to be based, your posting will also depend on the needs of your role and regiment. That’s why it’s important to think about what matters most to you - whether that’s location, lifestyle or career path, and choose a role that aligns with those priorities.

Where Don't We Go?!

“Where don’t we go?! Yeah pretty much! It’s more of the question - where can’t you go?”

That’s how one soldier sums it up. And they’re not wrong.

The Army has bases and deployments across the UK and around the world. From Scotland and Northern Ireland to Cyprus, Kenya and Canada, to name a few - offering the chance to work in a variety of locations depending on your role.

It’s perfect for me, I get to meet new people, adapt to different working styles, and build a wide range of experience.

New Places, New Experiences

Army life is anything but ordinary. Whether you're based in the UK or posted overseas, each assignment brings fresh opportunities to explore, connect, and grow. As one soldier puts it, “Weekends become a chance to explore somewhere new, rather than sticking to the same old routine.”

For roles like mechanics, the variety is built in. “I move every two to three years and can work in any camp with vehicles,” they explain. “It’s perfect for me, I get to meet new people, adapt to different working styles, and build a wide range of experience.”

Every posting isn’t just a change of location, it’s a chance to expand your skillset, gain new perspectives, and shape a career that’s rich in diversity and opportunity.
