Tip 1 - Pay attention

Whenever you’re going out look for pubs, garages, and civilization. It’s always better to go back to somewhere you know than take a chance to go somewhere you don’t.

Tip 2 - Take fire-lighting tools

A Tin of tinder weighs almost nothing, but with a lighter, you can light a fire that will keep you warm all night. When it’s lit keep it going.

Tip 3 - Look for the light

Any sign of electric lights, head towards it. If they’ve got power they’ve got something to help you out.

Tip 4 - Phone home

Try phoning home as soon as possible. No signal? Keep trying every 5 minutes, one tiny connection means you can be seen on GPS. Keep your apps off to help keep your battery power high.

Tip 5 - Keep warm, dry and visible

At some point, you will decide whether to wait out the night. If it’s too wet and cold to carry on find somewhere as warm and dry as possible. Sleep in your dry clothes to keep warm. Stay as dry as you can

Tip 6 - Keep your head and keep the faith

When it’s dark and far from home it’s normal to panic but staying calm is how you’ll survive. Get your pulse back to normal. Believe in yourself and keep going.

And that's how to survive in the wild.

A job like no other

The Army offers you challenge and adventure that you simply can't find in any other job.
